CHANGING PERCEPTIONS OF U.S. IMMIGRATION: The United States has more immigrants than any other country in the world. Today, more than 40 million people in the U.S. were born in another country. In particular, one of every four workers in long-term senior care facilities are immigrants.
AMERICA'S SENIORS: More than 55 million Americans are age 65 and older. 6.5 million American seniors experience loneliness and isolation, increasing their risk of premature death from all causes.
THE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC: The U.S. Surgeon General warns of an epidemic of loneliness in the U.S. and that lacking connection increases the risk for premature death to levels comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
IMPACT CAMPAIGN GOALS
The filmmaking team behind The Test seeks to create a nationwide public engagement campaign through screenings of The Test to accomplish the following outreach efforts:
To shed light on the experience of immigrants and the sacrifices they make to become US citizens, thus contributing to a more hopeful conversation aboutU.S. immigration policy.
To inspire audiences in senior living communities across the US, and motivate them to start similar Citizenship Programs.
To create national awareness of the film’s themes of hope and solutions by drawing top-tier media and festival attention to the film’s educational and screening tour.
